What is ALM?
ALM is a set of processes that address both business and IT objectives and priorities. It seeks to maximize the efficiency of the software development process within an organization by taking an automated, integrated and coordinated approach. A successful ALM implementation should not only increase collaboration between IT and business, but also cut time and cost of development cycles while improving the overall quality of the applications being developed.

Introducing ALM Assessment
Before introducing ALM, it is important that the business drivers involved understand that ALM is a business strategy designed for the development environment which should be implemented in planned phases over time. For example, phase one will require an assessment of the organization’s current strengths and weaknesses regarding application development and IT delivery. By having an understanding of how the organization operates today, one can better understand how it needs to adapt in order to take advantage of the ALM methodology.
