Hedgehog Development Creates First Pure Model-View-Controller (MVC) Solution
Enables Equinox Fitness Clubs to Build Sitecore Around New MVC Paradigm
Resulting in More Control Over Web Architecture
Holbrook, NY (October 5, 2011) -- Hedgehog Development, a leading custom application development company, today announced that it has partnered with Equinox to successfully develop the world’s first pure ASP.NET Model-View-Controller (MVC) solution for Equinox Fitness Clubs.
The Hedgehog/Equinox team, headed by Hedgehog’s Solutions Architect, Matt Friedlander and Equinox Fitness Club’s Senior Developer, Dan Oved, completed the uniquely challenging project in just three months.
MVC is an architectural pattern used in software engineering that is quickly growing in popularity within the development community. Until now, a developer using an established, top-tier platform such as Sitecore, which is built entirely on a Webforms paradigm, would be required to build MVC around the platform to ensure compatibility. MVC eliminates this requirement. Instead of retrofitting MVC into the Sitecore platform, a developer can now build a more robust application by building a new MVC website first and then using Sitecore from within the MVC environment. With MVC, a developer has more control over web architecture than with other paradigms such as Webforms. Some of the key benefits of ASP.net MVC that Equinox was able to leverage in developing their Sitecore application with Hedgehog are: 1) complete control of the rendered HTML 2) fully test driven development 3) clean separation of concerns and 4) search engine optimization.
Oved, a strong believer in the MVC pattern who knew that the concepts of a well-built CMS naturally should support this paradigm, evaluated the ability of different CMS options to serve as pure respositories for content with the guidance of Samir Desai, Equinox’s Sr. Director of App Development. Then they successfully built a prototype that would consume and serve content from Sitecore into an MVC application by leveraging its application programming interface (API).
Commenting on his decision to work with Hedgehog, Oved said, “Once I weighed all the inherent benefits of MVC plus the investment we’d made in Sitecore, the best content management system you can get, I knew that running Sitecore in MVC was the way to go and that if anyone could make it happen, Hedgehog could.”
